Chicken Soup For The Soul

Product Photography

We shot all label images for the "Chicken Soup For The Pet Lover's Soul" 15 different pet foods. This project was a major challenge as we had to shoot untrained shelter pets with many non-professional models (including little kids). We had about 45 people on set through the two-day shoot.

As part of a massive rebranding effort, Chicken Soup for the Soul contracted with me to photograph the cover images for all of their pet food skews. The goal was to capture the relationship between pets and their owners. The beautiful new packaging is bright, colorful, and modern while still giving a nod to the legacy of the brand. This project was the first major rebranding of the "Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul" in at least 10 years.

Anatomy of a Consumer Packaged Goods Photo Shoot

This project was particularly challenging because Chicken Soup decided to use shelter pets rather than trained animals. We also used mostly non-professional models, including children who have never been on set before. We had two days to shoot 15 product line images. In that time we had about 45 humans and roughly 20 pets pass through the set. Quite a project!

In addition to the studio shoot with people and pets, we had many additional shoots which included food and packaging photography. By the time all was said and done, we shot for more than 100 hours and spent easily twice that amount to prep the images for printing.
